Hello friends old and new! Welcome to my very first blog post. One of the things I enjoy most about vending at events is the chance to meet and get to know you all. While this move from Etsy to my own website is a wonderful opportunity, it was missing that personal touch which customers receive at events. This blog will hopefully help to remedy that.
First things first, introductions.
Hi! My name is Michelle. I am a work at home mom with a houseful of a husband, two young sons, three cats, three dogs, and a tortoise to look after. It is my delight to share my enthusiasm for shawl pins, knitting, crochet, yarn, geekery, and nature with you. I rarely leave the house without a shawl pin on. If I'm not wearing it on a shawl, scarf, or cardigan, then there is one in my hair. Please comment with your introduction. Do you have husbands/pets/kids that take up space in your house that could be better filled with yarn? ;)
This summer, I visited a nearby nature center with my kids. The Fairy house was adorable! If you are curious about the shawl it is Apparent Glitz. The yarn is a delightfully soft yak/merino gradient from White Birch Fiber Arts. (By the way, she also has some stunning short repeat sock gradient yarns.)
These are my three feline crafting assistants. From left to right: Whisky, Lily, & Crystal. My eldest son named Whisky because of his whiskers. He’s a fearless snuggler, who will solicit petting from anyone who walks in the house. Lily is shy, snuggly, and playful. Her coloring is a mix of grey tabby and Siamese, with the most beautiful blue eyes. Crystal is our wonderful weirdo. She is very shy, polydactyl (extra toes on her two front paws), has a clipped ear, missing teeth and has the strangest sounding purr you have ever heard!
Now that you’ve gotten to know me a little better; here is a bit of what I love about events.
I always enjoy a trip to Stitches Midwest! It is delightful to get away from home to be surrounded by yarn and yarn enthusiasts for the weekend. I have gotten to know many of the attendees and vendors well. At most events all samples displayed are made with yarn from other vendors with a booth at that event. I love to help promote our fabulous indie dyers! Events also provide an opportunity to share product tips and techniques. I hope to add a few tips and techniques to the blog soon.
My greatest joy at every event is when customers stop by the booth wearing their shawl pins. It continues to amaze me the unique ways each person wears their pin. A gift is given to every customer wearing a pin to the booth. (Hugs are usually also offered - my grandma is hugger; I guess it’s genetic!) Below are a few of the customers who have shared their pin and shawl styling skills over the past couple of years. See anyone you recognize?

I hope to add to this blog regularly with event preparation, post event reflections, pattern technique tutorials, and other fun surprises.
Thanks for reading! Please comment with your introduction, any questions for me, or any suggestions of what you’d like to see in my next blog post.

Hi, Michelle! Hope the transition from Etsy goes well. (I’m just making the jump to Etsy myself).
I’d love to see process pictures and posts, but I’m looking forward to whatever you want to share.

Great first blog, Michelle. I recognize some of the Stitches Midwest folks from this year and last. (guess my memory is still intact). Love your kitties, they are each so different. Lily reminds me of one I had who was a tabby-Siamese with blue eyes.
